NJ Striper Fishing Adventure! Springtime Striper Wranglin`!

NJ Striper Fishing from a boat, is something that I had always read about in the magazines, but had never actually experienced. So when a friend asked me if I`d like to join him on his boat & have a go at it, I was all in!

Plans were made & I received a text from “Captain Bob” on Friday asking if I could be at his house at 4am the next morning to head down to Atlantic Highlands. “Heck yea!” I wrote back. I could hardly sleep that night, almost like a little kid the night before Christmas!
I was at his house at 4am sharp & ready to go. Jumped in his truck & away we went. Like I said earlier, I had never ever fished from a boat for Stripers, so this was a totally new learning experience for me.
We stopped & grabbed a couple of breakfast sandwiches before we got to the marina, and at that time I took a half a Dramamine……. And yes, I get sea-sick in the calmest of ocean waters! And we didn`t need `ol “Chum King Ken” to show up that morning! ha! ha!

Arriving at the pier at the break of dawn,
there was barely a breeze & the water looked
really calm. Captain Bob was out the day before in the same weather conditions, & told me they managed to catch twenty Stripers!
So I had my fingers crossed, hoping for a little De’Ja’ Vu that day.
The Captain decided that it would be best to troll as they hadn`t done anything with bait the previous day. So he set up two poles with umbrella rigs & explained to me what to do when one jumped on. Now at that point, I was really gettin` pumped & ready to nail a few sea-cows!

As the morning went on, I wrangled up a few more beauties out there. And I have to say this, Captain Bob was probably the most gracious Captain you`d ever meet on the high-seas. He actually let me catch every Striper that morning! And I caught a few beauties!

Captain Bob kept us on the fish for a few hours, before the boat traffic got too heavy. We only ended up with seven that morning, but the ones we caught, were all really nice, big Stripers!
And of course, I had to bring to Go PRO……… So here is the clip I shot of the day`s adventure.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed catching those Big Springtime NJ Stripers!
Till next time…..

NJ Striper Fishing – Ken Beam chasing those Magic Hour NJ Stripers in his `Yak

The odds weren`t looking too favorable tonight, as the Parkway was jammed up, the days are getting much shorter and a strong wind was whipping in the cool Fall air. At the rate I was traveling, with the sun setting on the horizon, I figured maybe I`d have forty-five minutes at best to have a go at those NJ Stripers tonight.
But I had my `Yak and I was determined to wrangle up a NJ Striper or two before darkness set in. Boy was I ever wrong.
The wind was really kicking up as the sun was setting and I thought, “Ahhhhhhhh just a couple more casts and I`ll call it a night” – But it`s never, ever just a couple more casts with me!! ha! ha!~
As darkness set in, I was still making “just a couple more casts” –  I paddled back close to where I had launched and figured I’d have one more go at it, drifting in the strong breeze in the darkness. Now I`m not saying it was the smartest thing to be sitting out there tonight in the strong wind, in total darkness without any sort of light, but hell I didn`t really mind it at all. “After all, the Indians must`ve done it like this“, I thought to myself.
BAM! Striper on! As I set the hook the drag screamed as the fish dove for deeper water. In a matter of minutes, I had landed my supper, paddled back to shore and called it a night.

As I`m writing this, my NJ Striper is sitting on ice all filleted this morning and I`m looking forward to Sharon making one of her amazing dinners out of the best tasting fresh fish that you will ever dine on!
Till next time…..
After I got done fishing, and loaded up my `Yak and gear in the Murano, I stopped at a WaWa to get some ice…….A bunch of young punks, maybe six or seven teens, 14 to 17 years old or so were inside. So I swaggered in to grab my ice and one goes to me, “Hey man……where`s your knife?” as they all started laughing at the young ball-buster`s smart-ass question. Since it was the night before Halloween. I decided to have a little fun with the young smart-ass. I walked over towards the group, with the brim of my hat over my eyes and then when I got right in front of all of them, I looked up with a sort of wild-eyed. crazed look and said, “Now…..what did you ask me Son?”………as I glared at the group like I was nuts!!!! ha! ha!
The kid goes….”Uhhhhhh…..uhhhhhhhhh nothin` Sir”…………. I turned my head away then snapped back and went “Boo!” and man, everyone of those kids jumped a mile!!!! I think the kid in front of me shit his pants!!! Then I said. “Happy Halloween boys!”………….grabbed my ice and walked out.

NJ Striper Fishing! A Indian Summer Adventure with Ken Beam

“NJ Striper Fishing and a beautiful Fall Day,…..The ideal combination for an awesome Indian Summer Adventure!” I thought as I was watching the weather forecast days before.
Definitely like to take advantage of any prime-time fishing weather if and when possible and having three days of vacation-time left for the year, would make this the perfect time to burn one of those days.
Loaded up the `Yak and my gear in the truck the night before, grabbed my Hat and made my way South to the Garden State parkway at daybreak.

“Was very excited to have a go at some NJ Stripers. as I was looking forward to getting towed in my `Yak!”

Only fished for about an hour or so, and landed my 1st Striper I ever caught while fishing out of a `Yak! A smaller Bass, but nonetheless, still my 1st in the `Yak!
I fished all day enjoying this gorgeous weather and catching a few Stripers along the way. Then in the evening things got very interesting………

While working a Bomber lure barely under the surface, the water exploded violently as a good-size Striper attacked it! BAM! Striper on indeed!
This was good, solid size fish as the big Bass gave me the “towing” in my `Yak that I was hoping to experience pulling me everywhere! WOW!
Now it certainly wouldn`t be a complete Adventure without a Go PRO Video right? This is the clip that I shot of the day`s adventure. You`ll enjoy this one!
I filleted that nice Bass and my girlfriend Sharon, made this incredible Herb Encrusted Baked Striper dish the next night! I certainly love eating fish, but I have to tell you,……Striper just became my all-time favorite fish after that amazing supper!!!

The perfect ending, to the perfect Indian Summer Adventure!
Till next time…..
